North Shore Nova Scotia Paradise found

Welcome to Nova Scotia's warm North Region

The North of Nova Scotia warmer? Don't you have icebergs up there?

One hour and thirty minutes North from Halifax International Airport lies a body of water known as the Northumberland Strait. Filled with fish, lobster and oysters, fisherman and the Mi'kmaq people have enjoyed the fruits of this warm water - warm due to it's shallowness, heated quickly by the sun. The warmth prevents fog and the North Shore of Nova Scotia has near zero fog days per year. The micro-climate allows a variety of fruits and even vineyards to flourish producing the worlds main crop of blueberries and internationally acclaimed wine from Jost Vineyards.

Add friendly, hospitable people, low crime rates, empty roads, a spring full of wild flowers, hot summers, beautiful Fall colours to rival New England, a Ski Resort good enough to hold the Canada Games, 5 star Fox Harb'r Golf Resort and Spa and photo opportunities at every turn and you have a combination that will keep you here forever.

Just a word about Malagash.........

Malagash - Mi'kmaq for "place of games" Arrowheads found by beachcombers bear witness to their long summers of hunting and fishing.

A peninsular, mostly bypassed by tourists, has a holiday feel as soon as you leave the Highway. There is high ground along the spine that slopes gently to the ocean. To the south are south-facing slopes favoured by organic farmers and cottagers where the water reaches an amazing 78F in the summer whilst to the North are open ocean views, wildlife and privacy. In fact the Northumberland Strait warms so quickly that Malagash is one of the few year round fog free locations in Nova Scotia.

Jost Winery is probably the most well known spot on Malagash where the ripe  grapes give more testament to the warm climate. There is also a warm water Beach Park where you can walk a half mile out on sand banks and still be only waist high in warm water. There is also a marina, golf driving range and a grocery store selling home cooked food. Fresh eggs, apples, honey and organic produce can all be purchased at honesty boxes roadside.

Honesty and security - this is one of the few places left in the world to feel safe with crime unheard of. There are a surprising number of residents with great community support and well attended church.

The peace and feeling of solitude may make you think this area is remote. On the contrary, Malagash is a short drive from the artisan town of Tatamagouche which is flourishing culturally and intellectually. touted as "New Chester" Tatamagouche is a full service town with ER hospital, pharmacy, churches and schools; it has arts centre, interpretive museum, performng arts, live free concerts, a host of year round activities, book reading club, yoga and a Buddhist Centre.

The calm waters of Malagash Bay leads into the twin rivers of Tatamagouche making boating and kayaking full of interest with much to explore. There are trails, off-road tracks, horse-riding and Ski Wentworth 20 minutes away.

Malagash is 1h 30minutes from two International Airports, Halifax and Moncton, and the same from Confederation Bridge, PEI making access to three Provinces extremely easy. The USA is a seven hour drive.

As a resident of Malagash I have extensive local knowledge and a large number of properties for sale with prices for land lots as low as $14,000 to oceanfront 60 acre homes at $699,000.

As Malagash becomes discovered by more and more people values will undoubtedly rise. With marina, beaches, golf and ski nearby it may well see a property Gold Rush and become one of the most sought after locations. It has all the ingredients, they just need mixing.
